How can PET bottles turn into plush fabrics? Is it safe?
The collected & inspected plastic bottles will be shipped to the processing factory to clean and compressed into polyester chips and then melted into small transparent pellets. These pellets will be crushed and heated again and formed into polyester yarn for the soft toy fabrics. This process way brings much lower carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption than creating the original virgin polyester.
Meanwhile, through “deep cleaning” such as high temperature and machine vacuum processing, these plastics were able to reach the “food contact packaging” cleaning level. Moreover, We also requested our fabric suppliers to update the GRS test report regularly to make sure the materials we’re purchasing are no chemical substances and are safe to use in soft toy manufacturing.
What was the advantage of using recycled fabrics?
According to relevant statistics, in 2016 alone, the global consumption of plastic bottles reached 480 billion, but ONLY 7% of them were reused. What happens to the rest? Buried in the Landfill or in the ocean. These numbers are even worse if we narrow them down to individual countries. Our natural environment, and marine life, including ourselves, are facing the harm of plastic pollution. Therefore, it is urgent to control the pollution of plastic bottles.
And do you know polyester is the most widely used in global textile (accounting for 55% of the global textile market in 2016), which means that recycling plastic water bottles to make fabrics are sustainable and positive for environmental protection?
In our plush toys manufacturing, six 500ml polyester plastic water bottles can make a stuffed animal about 10 inches in size. At the same time, recycling 1 ton of recycled polyester fiber means that the emission of carbon dioxide gas can be reduced by 3.2. Or it can produce about 0.9 tons of recycled polyester fiber raw material, saving 6 tons of oil, or 3 cubic meters of landfill space.
Did recycled PET fabric have a difference from virgin polyester?
